The US Labs21 programme has developed a number of on-line toolkits. The Environmental Performance Criteria below has been 'lightly' adapted for the UK:

• A Design Guide for Energy-Efficient Research Labs - a detailed guide to the main topics of sustainable laboratory design.
  
• Labs21 Design Process Manual - contains two sub-sections, the first an overview of the main topics of sustainable laboratory design, and the second a summary of key stages in the design process.
  
• Environmental Performance Criteria - 97 criteria for assessing the environmental sustainability of laboratories, with brief guidance on how they can be achieved.
  
• Energy Benchmarking - UK and US benchmark tools to compare the energy performance of your laboratory with similar facilities.

Note that, because the toolkits were developed by different sub-contractors in the US, there is some overlap of content between them. For the same reason, they are also set up as self-contained sub-sites, appearing in a new browser window (so pop-ups must be enabled). Unfortunately, it is not possible to navigate from these sub-sites to the main Labs21 UK site.
